New Delhi, Jan 9 (ANI): The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration has tightened its vigil along the coasts by establishing additional marine police outposts in view of the current security situation.

This was stated by Lieutenant Governor of the Islands, Lt. General (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas exhibition in Chennai.

The Island's security agencies have also enhanced the monitoring of its territorial waters to check poaching and other illegal activities, he added.

The Lt. Governor said that the pristine eco-system of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands would be preserved while taking up development works including tourism projects.

"Once proper infrastructure is put in place in the Nicobar group of islands, they would also be opened up for popular tourism," the Governor added.

"Utmost care is being given so that the fragile natural eco-system of the archipelago is not in any way disturbed," he added.

Lt. General (Retd) Singh said that over 85 to 90 per cent of the works of tsunami rehabilitation have been completed. (ANI)
