Saina, Sridhar advance to second round Malaysian Super series

New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) Indian shuttlers had a mixed day in office in the first round matches of the Malaysian Open Super Series badminton in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday.

 

Fifth seed Saina Nehwal outplayed Japan's Megumi Taruno 21-8, 21-13 to move into the second round.

 

 

In men's singles, Arvind Bhat beat Indonesia's Simon Santoso 21-15, 21-12 while Chetan Anand got the better of Canada's Bobby Milroy 21-0, 21-12.

 

 

Anup Sridhar, who is playing in the circuit after a injury layoff, got past Muhammad Roslin Hashim of Malaysia 21-17 21-14.

 

 

But P. Kashyap and Anand Pawar lost their respective matches.

 

 

Kashyap lost to third seed Peter Gade of Denmark 9-21, 21-14, 12-21 while Pawar went down to qualifier Hsuan Yi-Hsueh of Chinese Taipei 27-25, 16-21, 19-21.

 

 

In women's singles, Aditi Mutatkar lost to third seed Chen Wang of Hong Kong 21-17, 18-21, 19-21.

 

 

Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas lost to Polish pair of Michal Logosz and Robert Mateusiak 12-21, 18-21 in men's doubles first round.

 

 

In mixed doubles, V. Diju and Jwala Gutta won against Chieh Min Fang and Wen Hsing Cheng of Chinese Taipei 21-17, 21-15.
