TN blasts verdict after Mumbai blasts

Aug 01: In 1998 serial blasts in Kerala bordering city, Coimbatore total 53 people have been convicted.

The verdict was delivered today morning on the 220 core charges against 166 accused in the rocking blasts which left the textile city shocked and surprised at the violence inflicted on them so sudden.

Charges of criminal conspiracy have been proved against 53 including the main brain behind the conspiracy Syed Ahmad Basha who founded the banned Al-Umma, its secretary Mohammad Ansari.

The 19 bomb blasts in a series was a part of the conspiracy named ‘Operation Allahu akbar’ to wipe out senior BJP leader L K Advani who was scheduled to visit the city during his political campaign said special investigation team of TN. Bombs were plotted to retaliate the death of Muslims due to the outrage spread on the murder of a constable, traffic.

This heinous act which targeted Advani left at least 58 people dead and more than 200 hurt and destroyed the property worth crores.

Uthirapathy announced the verdict amid high security with the session court roped up with local police, reserve police and bomb disposal squad to avoid any unpleasant incident.

Most of the arrested people followed the banned organization Al-Umma.

Kerala based ailing PDP chairman, Abdul Nasser Madhani was cleared of the charges including the conspiracy of the blasts carried out on Feb 14. Madhani was being provided special medical treatment in the jail as he suffered from diabetes.

Where as Kerala chief minister is rejoice over the clean chit to the PDP leader in the Coimbatore blast case and expressed his hope of the resumption of the political activities by Madhani, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad has showed unhappiness over his acquittal.
