July 31: TADA court awarded actor Sanjay Dutt six years’ rigorous imprisonment in 93 Mumbai blasts case under the Arms Act for the illegal possession of arms like AK-56 assault rifle and a Chinese pistol in his house.

He has also been ordered by the judge Kode to pay a fine of Rs. 25,000. The court also cancelled his bail bond and was ordered immediately to be taken in custody.

Judge expressed his sympathy for the actor but keeping the law of the nation above everything said that Dutt has committed various crimes in chronology and not only himself committed but incited others (Yusuf) to do.

Sanjay Dutt was convicted last year under Arms Act when Sanjay Dutt’s plea that he kept the arms for the protection of the family in view of the threats which the family was constantly receiving during riots was accepted by the court.

Court also accepted that he did not cherish any intention of terrorist acts which could have drawn his trial under TADA.

His helper Yusuf Nulwalla was awarded 5 years imprisonment.

Another aide of the actor Rusi Mulla has been released on the payment of bond of Rs. 1 lakh and a security of he same amount. He got the benefit of Probation of Offenders act which was denied to Sanjay Dutt.

Before the sentence was awarded to the actor he felt nervous and anxious about the sentence. Sanjay Dutt has the option to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

Go get the real criminals. Sanjuy has proved himself to be an honest and law abiding citizen since his 16 month jail imoprisonment. This is not the way to treat a noble person. Subah ka bhula agar shaam ko lauta hai to use bhoola nahi kehte.

A US Citizen, born and raised in Mumbai.
