Indian Coast Guard walks for environment protection in Chennai

Chennai, Jan 4 (ANI): Indian Coast Guard in Chennai today participated in walkathon to spread the message of environment safety.

 

About 50 kilometers walk was organised to illustrate Indian Coast Guards' commitment towards environment.

 

School and College students, families of naval officers and other residents participated in the walkathon.

 

"Number of school children, university students, army, naval, air force, National Cadet Crops (NCC) personnel are participating besides coast guards. They met to spread the message about environment clean and green Chennai," said S.P.S. Basra, Commander, coast guard region east.

 

The walkathon was organised as part of the Indian Coast Guard Raising Day celebration, which is celebrated on February 1 every year.

 

Coast Guard forces are rendering service from more than 30 years on maritime frontiers, preventing smuggling and anti-poaching activities and also work for the conservation of endangered species, marine flora and fauna.

 

The Indian Coast Guard is responsible for guarding and patrolling 2.01 million sq km of sea area. (ANI)
