National,Politics, Sun, 04 Jan 2009 IANS

Ahmedabad, Jan 3 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Saturday visited the India-Pakistan border at Banaskantha and interacted with security personnel.

'The soldiers are keenly watching the border. Our forces are alert and prepared to withstand any challenge,' Modi said while addressing troopers at the Border Security Force (BSF) outpost 960.

He had spent the first day of the New Year with soldiers at the international border in the Kutch region.

Modi spoke with BSF Deputy Inspector General R.P.S. Malik and Battalion Commandant Pushpendrasingh Rathod and sought information about various security measures in force. He also observed the wire-fencing project near Nagar Parker area of Pakistan.

'We would make a proposal to the central government for a road linkage up to the BSF post,' Modi said.

He said an airstrip at Deesa was an urgent necessity considering that the town was strategically located and was needed to link the north Gujarat and Kutch borders.
