Act fast on pay hike demand: Oil company officers to government

National,Business, Sat, 03 Jan 2009 IANS

Kolkata, Jan 3 (IANS) The group of ministers (GoM), constituted by the central government to look into the higher wage demands of public sector oil companies' officers, should 'act fast', the head of an officers' association said Saturday.

'They should clear our proposals fast. If the GoM decides something good for us, we will do away with the strike,' Subodh Dakwale, president of the Indian Oil Corp (IOC) Officers' Association, told IANS from New Delhi.

The GoM is headed by Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

Around 50,000 officers from 14 oil public sector companies across the country have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from Jan 7.

Officers across India Saturday met in New Delhi to chalk out plans for the strike.

The officers will go on strike under the banner of Oil Sector Officers' Association (OSOA), an umbrella body.

They have submitted an 11-point charter of demands to the petroleum ministry earlier, Dakwale said.

Apart from IOC, the other oil biggies that have joined the strike include Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), GAIL (India) Ltd, Oil India Ltd (OIL) and Cochin Refineries Ltd.
