Srinagar, Jan 3 (IANS) Omar Abdullah, chief minister designate of Jammu and Kashmir, has decided to stay in his present three-bedroom house in summer capital Srinagar and not shift to the palatial chief minister's official residence.

'I have a small family. My two children would be lost in that huge mansion. In fact, I don't need such a huge mansion to live in,' Omar told reporters here Saturday.

Known as a family man, Omar likes spending time with his family whenever he can.

As parliament member and president of the regional National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah has been living in a small three-bedroom house on Gupkar Road here close to the private residence of his father, Farooq Abdullah.

During the chief ministership of Ghulam Nabi Azad, the state government constructed a palatial residence overlooking the Dal Lake and Azad had started living there towards the end of the Congress-People's Democratic Party (PDP) government. The government fell last July after the PDP withdrew support.
