Two men attack Andhra cops, gunned down
Hyderabad, Jan 2 (IANS) Two people allegedly transporting firearms were Friday gunned down by the police in Andhra Pradesh's Karimnagar district after they attacked policemen.
Police officials claimed that both were criminals and were killed in a shootout after they attacked policemen and tried to escape.
The shooting took place on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, about 160 km from here. Acting on a tip-off, the personnel of Hyderabad's Task Force intercepted a car carrying the two alleged criminals.
Karimnagar District Superintendent of Police Y. Gangadhar told reporters that they attacked the police with knives and tried to flee, forcing the police to open fire. Both men were injured and were taken to hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
They were identified as Murtaza Khadri and Shabbir, both residents of Hyderabad. They were allegedly involved in several criminal cases.
The police said two revolvers, a few knives and four mobile phones were seized from their car.
