Ex-cricketer Gough reveals his best and worst holiday experiences

London, Jan.1(ANI): Former England cricketer and Strictly Come Dancing champion Darren Gough has revealed his best and worst holiday experiences. He told The Telegraph that is best holiday was with his family to Canouan in the Grenadines.

"It's a Raffles resort and is perfect for a family holiday. The island has beautiful white beaches, oodles of sunshine, one of the best golf courses I've ever played and plenty of activities for the children. We stayed in a lovely two-bedroom villa, with its own private pool. We also had two golf buggies, which we used to whiz around the resort. We've been there twice and we're already thinking about when we can go back again. It's a place where you can totally get away from everything," Gough said.

He also described the Mina A'Salam in Dubai as the best hotel to stay in, and added that a perfect holiday for him meant sunshine with a little breeze, besides a nice gym and a choice of restaurants.

He also says that he likes reading while on a holiday, and his preferred choice were books written by James Patterson or autobiographies.

As far as travel was concerned, he said: "If you can afford it, always travel business class."

He said that his next holiday destination was the Versace hotel in Brisbane, Australia.

"Australia is a place that I absolutely adore and we've got family in Brisbane," Gough said.

A visit to Tenerife, was his worst holiday experience.

"Tenerife seemed to only offer British food. It wasn't my cup of tea and I'm not in a rush to go back there," he said.

As far as his worst experience on a holiday, Gough said it had to be Peshawar, where the market "was basically in this lawless, no-man's land area and there were seven-year-old kids walking round brandishing Kalashnikovs, which horrified me."

"I'd never seen anything like it and when I think about it I'm just gobsmacked that we were allowed to go there," he added.

The worst hotel he stayed in was in Ahmedabad when England was to take on New Zealand in the World Cup in '96.

"Me and Craig White were sharing a room and we had to sleep in our clothes. When we looked out of the window in the morning, which was right by a river, there were people using it as a loo. We were there three nights before being moved. I didn't eat any food there while I was staying there and I think it was the only time that I've ever lost weight," he said. (ANI)
