Sarkar hopes Bangladesh will help solve northeast issues
Agartala, Dec 31 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Wednesday expressed optimism that the new Bangladesh government led by the Awami League would help settle pending issues related to the northeast, including terrorism.
'We strongly believe that the Awami League government headed by Sheikh Hasina would resolve the northeast India's terrorism related problems and provide transit to transport men and materials between the northeast and the rest of the country via Bangladesh,' Sarkar told reporters here.
'It was a very positive sign that the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government came to power, crushing the fundamentalist forces in that country,' he said.
Noting that Tripura and Bangladesh share historically and culturally close and friendly relations, Sarkar said: 'With the installation of a new government (there), ties between Bangladesh and India would be further strengthened.'
