Mumbai terrorists trained in Karachi, says Lashkar Commander (Update- Zarar Shah)

Washington, Wed, 31 Dec 2008 ANI

Washington, Dec 31 (ANI): The terrorists, who stroke at the heart of Southern Mumbai between November 26 and November 29, were trained at Karachi, according to a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander.

Admitting to the group's involvement in the terror attacks on Mumbai, Zarar Shah Shah told investigators that he was constantly in touch with the attackers.

Both Shah and Zakiaur Rehman Lakhvi, another mastermind, were arrested this month for their alleged involvement in the Mumbai terror operation.

Shah's confession is backed up by the US tape theory that claims a phone call took place between Shah and one of the attackers at the Taj Mahal Palace, the site of a 60-hour seizure.

Another person testified before the interrogators that Shah was one of the key planners of the operation, and that he spoke with the attackers during the rampage to give them advice and keep them focused.

Shah confirmed the story told by the sole captured terrorist, Ajmal Kasab that the ten Pakistan trained attackers reached India by boat from Karachi.

Shah said the attackers spent several weeks in Karachi, training in urban combat.

Indian and Western investigative agencies have already blamed the duo for masterminding the terror strike in Mumbai.

The LeT was banned in Pakistan in 2000 and Shah is said to be its communication chief. (ANI)
