China marks 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Taiwan

Beijing, Dec 31 (Xinhua) China Wednesday commemorated the 30th anniversary of the announcement of Message to Compatriots in Taiwan that ended its military confrontation with Taipei.
In the message, 30 years ago, China proposed to end the military confrontation across the Taiwan Strait through dialog and welcomed exchanges between the two sides.
Top Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao, participated in a ceremony to observe the day here Wednesday.
The Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, issued the Message to Compatriots in Taiwan Jan 1, 1979.
