Srinagar, Dec 30 (IANS) National Conference (NC) patron Farooq Abdullah's parental advice to his son Omar - the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister to be - Tuesday was to provide good governance to the state.
'My advice to Omar as the father is to keep sycophants away who surround such high positions and to give the people an honest and good government,' Abdullah told reporters at his Gupkar residence here after news poured in that the Congress-NC alliance had received the green signal from the Congress high command in Delhi.
Abdullah, a former chief minister of the state, said the priorities of the new government would be spelt out by his son after he was sworn in as the chief minister of the state.
'All our priorities are marked in the vision document which was part of our manifesto with which we went into the elections, but Omar would announce the priorities of the new government once he is sworn in,' the NC patron said.
The final decision on the Congress-NC alliance was taken Tuesday at a meeting between Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NC president and chief ministerial candidate Omar Abdullah in New Delhi.
The senior Abdullah also recalled that the alliance between the Congress and the NC had a historic background.
'Pandit (Jawaharlal) Nehru and my father had a long standing friendship though it remained sweet and sour at times. With today's alliance, a new chapter has begun in the developmental history of the state,' Abdullah said.
