New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS) India's Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) are fully prepared for any eventuality, including having to deal with nuclear, biological and chemical warfare, a senior army official said Tuesday.

'We are prepared for any eventuality,' AFMS Director General Lt. Gen. Yogendra Singh told reporters here.

He was responding to a question about the AFMS's preparedness in case of hostilities between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Nov 26-29 Mumbai terror attacks. Singh refrained from naming Pakistan in his reply and spoke only in generalities.

'As far as nuclear, biological and chemical warfare is concerned the AFMS is supposed to be the first responder. We are part of the National Disaster Management Authority. The training for this is an ongoing process,' Singh added.

'Our field hospitals and other hospitals are always ready and well prepared.'
