Engineer's lynching: Shekhar Tiwari's gunmen arrested
Lucknow, Dec 29 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh Police Monday arrested two gunmen deployed for the personal security of 'criminal-turned-legislator' Shekhar Tiwari of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) who is currently behind bars for allegedly lynching government engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta last week.
'The role of the gunners, Pal Singh and Gajraj Singh, was under cloud. We arrested them today,' Uttar Pradesh additional director general of police Brij Lal told reporters.
Asked about the absconding Auraiya BSP chief Yogendra Kumar Dohre, who was allegedly among the legislator's two cohorts who broke into Gupta's house and beat him to death Dec 24, Lal said: 'We have got orders for attachment of property owned by Dohre.'
He confirmed that Dohre was locally referred to as 'Bhatia'- his nickname. 'And there is enough evidence to show that he was present along with the MLA when they together atacked the enginner.'
The police officer said, 'We will get him soon and bring him to book.'
The police were also busy investigating the 'dubious' role of Inspector Hoshiar Singh, who has since been placed under suspension.
