Ranchi, Dec 29 (ANI): Sporting masks of cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and certain Bollywood stars, children recently walked the ramp here to display creations from khadi, the traditional hand-spun fabric.

The show was organised as a part of the Rashtriya Saras, Hastashilp Khadi Mahotsav-2008 (National Handicrafts and Khadi Textiles Fair-2008) and sponsored by the Jharkhand Government's Department of Rural Development in association with the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles.

Khadi as such had been a sort of trademark of almost all politicians' attire since Mahatma Gandhi had strongly advocated this handspun fabric from the cottage industry.

However, now it is no more restricted to the clan of politicians and on the other hand, gained acceptance amongst the fashion glitterati.

The trend setters from the fashion world have found Khadi to be the right and light fabric to herald perfect style attires.

Anamika Singh of the International Institute of Fashion Technology which presented the show said that the main aim of the show was to display and propagate eco-friendly qualities of Khadi.

"My first aim was to display Khadi before the public and tell them how eco-friendly the fabric is. Secondly since every child is a fan of either a cricketer or a Bollywood star. We have incorporated Khadi, Bollywood and cricket and presented a new concept to the public," said Singh.

Children like Cyrus enjoyed sashaying down the ramp holding the mask of Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan.

"When I walked the ramp holding the mask of Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan I felt very good and proud as I am his big fan," said Cyrus, a child model.

Khadi is the natural and handspun and hand woven from excellent fibres of cotton, silk and wool or a combination of both.
