Srinagar, Dec 29 (ANI): National Conference leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah today said that he would recommend to his party to consider his son Omar Abdullah for the post of new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to mediapersons here Dr. Abdullah said, "I will recommend to the party that it should consider Omar Abdullah for the Chief Minister's post. Now the state should have a younger Chief Minister because there are a lot of things to do."
Omar, on his part, said his father would guide him.
Omar further said informal contacts have been established with the Congress and he would now go to Delhi and talk to Congress leaders in seeking their help to form a government.
The National Conference bagged 28 seats in the 87-member J-K assembly with Congress notching up 17. While the People's Democratic Party (PDP) secured 21, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-11, and independent candidates 10 seats.
The National Conference and the Congress had formed coalition Governments in the eighties. The Government was then headed by Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
Before the dissolution of the Assembly, the State had a coalition government composed of the Congress, the PDP and other parties. Earlier, in the eighties the State had a coalition governments composed of the National Conference and the Congress. (ANI)
