Pak Taliban imposes sharia in lower Orakzai too

Hangu, Dec. 28 (ANI): Pak Taliban has announced enforcement of sharia law in the lower parts of Orakzai Agency after just a week of 'enforcement of sharia' in the upper parts of the agency.

Taliban were using loudspeakers in mosques to announce the decree and asked people to bring their issues to 'Taliban Islamic courts' for their resolution according to Islamic law, the Daily Times reported.

The new Taliban laws don't allow women to visit bazaars, who can only go out for medical treatments, but that too if they are accompanied by a male elder of the family.

The Taliban has imposed a complete ban on TV and CDs and video centres in the lower agency.

Generally, the tribal traditions do not require women to veil their faces, but the Taliban decree requires them to cover their bodies at all times.

There are 21 tribes in Orakzai and the Taliban have imposed Islamic law on 16 tribes. The other five tribes reside in areas where the Taliban has not announced sharia enforcement as yet.

The Taliban have also established complaint cells in Ghiljo and Kandi Mishti (Upper Orakzai), and Mamoozai and Feroze Khel (Lower Orakzai).

Earlier, the local Taliban of North west frontier province in Pakistan had announced imposition of sharia and ban on cutting forest trees in several areas of Upper Orakzai Agency.

The local Taliban had advised the residents of the tribal region to contact local Taliban centres in Ghalju and Kundi Mushti to seek solutions to their disputes.

The drive for implementation of Sharia surged last year in Federally Administered Tribal Area and several areas of NWFP. (ANI)
