Ex-lover of former 'Face of Asia' model says he's innocent

London, Dec 28 (ANI): The ex-lover of Sahar Daftary, the model who plunged 150 ft to her death, has claimed that he is 'completely innocent'.

Daftary, who won the Face of Asia contest in 2007, fell from a 12th floor flat in Salford Quays, Manchester.

On the day she died, Daftary, from Brentford, West London, is thought to have visited the flat to collect her belongings after pulling out of a fashion show earlier in the day, claiming ill health.

Daftary had married property developer Rashid Jamil, 33, in a Muslim ceremony 12 months ago, but parted ways after discovering that he was apparently already married.

Police arrested him on suspicion of murder after her death and released him on bail after ten hours of interrogation.

Jamil, lives in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, with his wife Narhisa Amjad, 29 and their two children aged four and one.

"I'm completely innocent. I'm devastated," the Telegraph quoted him, as telling the Daily Mail.

Jamil's solicitor Keith Dyson re-affirmed his client's innocence, saying the relationship between with Sahar Daftary had finished in May less than six months after their wedding.

He described their relationship as 'on off' and 'very up and down'.

Describing the events surrounding the model's death, Dyson said Jamil had been in the flat with her as - she collected her belongings from his rented property - but denied there had been a row.

He also said that Jamil had not seen her fall.

"He knew straight away. I think there was a noise or a scream and that alerted him to the fact that something was wrong," Dyson said.

"He ensured that the emergency services were there promptly."

He added: "I think the 999 call was made from eh concierge's phone. I don't know whether he made the call or somebody else made it on his behalf.

"We just don't know what happened. He's certainly not responsible for her death or the fall. He's obviously devastated at what's happened.

"It's absolutely not as a result of anything he's done. He has co-operated fully with police. He has a full account to give and will give it at the coroners court," Dyson added. (ANI)
