Malaysian applause for Nana Patekar's Tamil cinema debut

Asia, Sat, 27 Dec 2008 IANS

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 27 (IANS) There is a shortage of good anti-heroes in Tamil movies and Bollywood actor Nana Patekar will get plenty of roles if he chooses to continue working with Tamil directors and producers, a Malaysian film critic has said.

Praising his role in 'Bommalaatam', critic K.N. Vijiyan says Patekar, along with Tamil cinema's action hero Arjun, is the film's double-draw.

Patekar, who plays the villain, is also reprising the role in the film's Telugu version 'Kalidas'. The film will also be released in Hindi as 'Cinema'.

Writing in The New Straits Times, Vijiyan praised director Bharathiraja for introducing Patekar to southern Indian cinema.

'The movie will remind you of Bharathiraja's early attempt at urban stories - 'Sigappu Rojakkal' and thriller 'Tik Tik Tik',' the review said.

Vijiyan also applauded the musical score of 'Bommalaatam' by composer Himesh Reshammiya, who had rendered music for Kamalahaasan's 'Dasavaratham', which was released all over Malaysia earlier this year.
