Modi dedicates 'Atal Express' to children
Ahmedabad, Dec 25 (IANS) Inaugurating a festival as part of a project to develop the Kankaria lake front here, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi named a mini-train for children after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who turned 84 Thursday.
'Today is the birthday of our former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. To mark his birthday the mini-train would be christened Atal Express,' Modi declared and flagged off the ride.
The Kankaria Carnival, on till Dec 31, will be made an annual feature, he said.
'In the 550-year history of the city, Kankaria was decorated twice. Kankaria is not only an ornament to Ahmedabad city but also for entire Gujarat. But nobody ever spared a thought about its development,' he said.
The lake front in the heart of the city is being developed at the cost of Rs.360 million (Rs.36 crore).
