Graeme Smith battled an elbow pain to defeat Australia

Sydney, Dec.22 (ANI): Proteas Captain Graeme Smith battled from a severe pain in his elbow through out his innings of 108 against Australia which saw South Africa successfully chasing the second larget target in test cricket ever.

"Over the last day or two there's definitely pain there," Smith said after his 108 in the second innings.

Smith's century was his 18th and took him past 6000 Test runs. More importantly it was his highest score against Australia which set the tone for the chase.Smith will be flying to Melbourne to seek doctor's advice before the second test.

"I'll be flying on Monday to Melbourne to see a doctor there for more injections and stuff and to see what we can do before the Melbourne Test," The Australian quoted Smith, as saying.

Smith has been suffering from the pain for quite some time now.

He struggled with similar pain and almost fainted from it while batting in the last Test against England, at The Oval in August.

Comparing his first tour down under with the present one, he said that he has become a more calm and focused person now.

"(Being) more calm and focused on what I wanted to achieve was certainly a big thing for me. I'm much calm at the crease and focused on what I want to do each ball, to each bowler. It's a big change for me from the last time I played Oz," he said.(ANI)
