Sonia, Rahul to jointly address rally in Amethi Monday

Lucknow, Dec 20 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi will jointly address a public rally in Gauriganj in Rahul's Amethi parliamentary constituency on Monday, party sources told IANS here Saturday.

Rahul, who was on a visit to Amethi from Thursday, flew back to Delhi Friday evening, and is now scheduled to be back Monday along with his mother.

Sonia Gandhi is visiting Amethi to address a public rally after a long gap, though she has been frequently visiting her own Rae Bareli constituency, that adjoins Amethi.

The Congress chief will first preside over a function organised by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to promote women self-help groups, formed at the initiative of Rahul Gandhi. She will then address the rally.

Amethi was earlier the constituency of Rahul's late father, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.
