Washington, Dec 20 (IANS) Here is a timeline of major events in India-US relations in 2008:

Jan 14 - India and the US hold high level talks on defence cooperation in Washington.

Jan 24 - India and the US agree to promote reciprocal trade and opportunities for strategic linkages between small and medium enterprises.

Feb 1 - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and US space agency NASA agree to cooperate in space flights and outer space use.

Feb 8 - Air India launches non-stop flights between New York and New Delhi.

Feb 26 - US Defence Secretary Robert Gates visits India.

Feb 28 - India-US High Technology Cooperation Group holds its sixth meeting in New Delhi.

March 25 - External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee meets President George Bush at the White House to share India's problems in taking the nuclear deal forward.

May 9 - Mukherjee discusses nuclear deal with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over phone.

June 11 - Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath visits the US to participate in the Global Partnership summit.

July 4 - Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and US Ambassador to India David Mulford sign agreement on financing education exchange programmes.

July 9 - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets President George Bush in Toyako, Japan, on the sidelines of G-8 and informs him of India's decision to go ahead with the nuclear deal.

July 10 - Bush expresses appreciation for Manmohan Singh's 'commitment and willingness' to move forward with the nuclear deal despite the threat to his government.

Aug 1 - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approves India-specific safeguards agreement clearing one more hurdle in the way of the India-US nuclear deal.

Aug 9-23 - The Indian Air Force participates in multinational Exercise Red Flag at the Nellis US Air Force Base in the deserts of Nevada.
