Raman Singh seeks NSG centre in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Dec 19 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged him to consider the state as one of the bases of the proposed eight zonal centres of the elite National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, official sources said.

 

In a courtesy meet after retaining power in the November polls, the Chhattisgarh chief minister called on the prime minister in New Delhi. He also proposed a Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) forces for the state, which is facing stepped up Maoist attacks in recent years.

 

 

Maoist insurgents have killed over 1,100 people, included 726 civilians, in the state, mainly the southern mineral rich Bastar region since 2004.
