Ensure transparency in nursery admissions: court tells government
New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday asked the Directorate of Education (DoE) of the Delhi government to ensure that the city's private schools maintain transparency in nursery admissions.
A division bench of Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar directed the DoE to issue a circular instructing all schools to be transparent in their admission process.
The bench said: 'The DoE is directed to display on their website and notice board the criteria for admission in nursery and after the lists of selected students are finalised, to post the break-up of the marks of each candidate on the school's website.'
The court was hearing a petition filed by NGO Centre for Civil Society (CCS) pertaining to nursery admissions in private schools and the difficulties faced by toddlers' parents.
The petition alleged that the Delhi government has failed to take action against some private schools, which have not adopted an admission process that is transparent and as per the guidelines issued by the DoE.
The schools have ignored the notification issued by the government instructing them to display the break-up of the points scored by all the selected candidates and the education department is not taking any action against the schools for violating the guidelines, the petition said.
