Domestic help gets life term for murdering employer
Kolkata, Dec 19 (IANS) A city court Friday sentenced a 25-year-old domestic help to life imprisonment for murdering his 71-year-old employer in 2004.
Rabindranath Santra alias Rajesh had killed his employer Lalita Devi Goenka at her Alipore residence in south Kolkata Aug 12, 2004 and fled with Rs.155,000 from her locker.
Santra was handed a life term by Justice Dipankar Pal of the Alipore fast track court.
Goenka used to live alone in her 10th floor flat at Alipore. About a year after he started working for her, Santra hit Goenka on the head with an iron rod Aug 12, 2004. He also slashed her throat with a razor to ensure she died on the spot.
After committing the crime, Santra tied her body with jute ropes and dumped her in the storeroom and fled with Rs.155,000.
Santra was arrested Aug 14, 2004 from his house at Balasore in Orissa. However, only Rs.135,000 was recovered from him.
