Brit calls the cops after mistaking moon for UFO!

London, July 5 (ANI): Thinking he had spotted a UFO, a British man immediately called up the cops. As it turned out, the huge, round white thing in the sky was not a flying saucer - but the moon.

A patrol car was immediately sent to the spot from where the man called 999 - Britain's emergency number.

The recording released by South Wales police depicted how the event unfolded from the moment the Control Room answered the caller.

Control Room: 'South Wales Police, what's your emergency?'

Caller: "It's not really. I just need to inform you that across the mountain there's a bright stationary object."

Control room: "Right."

Caller: "If you've got a couple of minutes perhaps you could find out what it is? It's been there at least half an hour and it's still there."

Control: "It's been there for half an hour. Right. Is it actually on the mountain or in the sky?"

Caller: "It's in the air."

Control: "I will send someone up there now to check it out."

Caller: "OK."

Within minutes, the patrol car arrived at the spot, and the conversation between the cop and the control room shows just how barmy the caller was.

Control: "Alpha Zulu 20, this object in the sky, did anyone have a look at it?"

Officer: "Yes, it's the moon. Over."

The recording was released to highlight the timewasters who dial 999, reports The Sun.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "This is a recent, genuine example of an inappropriate 999 call.

"A caller reported a large bright object in the sky above their home and further investigation found that this object was in fact the moon.

"We can all see the comical side but calling 999 with an unnecessary non-emergency call could block a genuine call for vital seconds and put lives at risk." (ANI)
