CBI Director asks media to maintain impartiality

Lauding the role of the press in India’s development, CBI Director Ashwini Kumar called for a more responsible approach from media organisation as their reporting affect people the most. He was speaking at the inaugural function of a week-long training module for press persons on Monday held in New Delhi.


‘At times news values are not given prominence in the items reported because of the marketing strategies of media organisations,’ he said.

Calling upon the participants to always stand by truth, Kumar asserted that impartiality and integrity must be maintained at every cost by media. He also appraised the role of media for the nation stating that media has been a partner at every stage in India’s development.

Referring various initiatives undertaken by CBI, Kumar said that CBI through Policy & Coordination Division, coordinates investigation for the members of Interpol while its Cyber Crime Investigation and Research Cell besides doing research attend to the long felt need of the probe agencies.

This training module has been developed to introduce CBI to the Media; this is to sensitise the journalists about the role and functions of CBI. Around 20 journalists from newspapers, agencies and electronic media organisations are attending the programme.

Various segments of the role of CBI will be discussed during the convention which include legal framework of CBI, economic offences, anti-corruption cases, special crime cases, cooperation between CBI and state governments, international perspective of CBI and also the Media and CBI.
