Chandigarh, Dec 14 (IANS) A day before Abhinav Bindra won India's first individual gold medal at the Beijing Olympic Games, his parents went to a gurdwara (Sikh shrine) here to pray for their son's success. Their prayers answered, they along with their son came to pay obeisance at the same shrine Sunday.
Abhinav Bindra hit the bull's eye Aug 11 and won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics in the 10-metre air rifle category.
'We had made a wish and said we would come back here with Abhinav if he wins a medal. I am happy that god is so kind to us,' said A.S. Bindra, father of Abhinav.
Abhinav Bindra also donated Rs.100,000 to the gurdwara management committee and hosted free meal at 'langar' (community kitchen).
