New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) Janta Dal-United (JD-U) president Sharad Yadav was Sunday nominated acting convener of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The decision was taken by L.K. Advani, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (JP) leader, because of the deteriorating health of George Fernandes of the JD-U, who is the current convener of the NDA.

'The decision to nominate Sharad Yadav as acting NDA convener has been taken by Advani after consultations with NDA constituents,' senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told IANS.

In a statement, Advani said Yadav brings with him a rich experience of 35 years as an MP. Yadav emerged as the consensus choice as acting convener of NDA, the statement said.

Yadav, 61, was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1974 from the Jabalpur constituency.
