BBC faces heat over funding horror porn

London, Sun, 14 Dec 2008 ANI

London, December 14 (ANI): A BBC backed film, featuring the stories of serial killers Fred and Rose West, who had tortured at least 12 girls to death, has left people fuming following reports of its screening on television and in theatres over Christmas.

The low-budget-horror film has been partially funded by 10,000 pounds of licence-payers' dough and depicts Wests' murder rampage, reports the Daily Express.

BBC has incurred the wrath of the victims' relatives, MPs, and TV watchdogs, who condemned the timing of the film's release and dubbed the channel "as a disgrace" while accusing it of misspending licence fee money.

Peter Bastholm, aged 64, whose sister Mary, aged 15, had disappeared in 1968 and is thought to be amongst at least 20 more victims of the Wests whose bodies have never been recovered, said the BBC had been "hugely insensitive".

Tory MP Nigel Evans, in the culture, media and sport select committee, added: "The timing is sick and it's a sick film. It confirms that the BBC do not live in the real world as far as I'm concerned."

BBC said that it did not bear responsibility for the release pattern and would not be airing 'Mum and Dad' on any of its channels. (ANI)
