Gandhiji's grandson's widow passes away
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 14 (IANS) Mahatma Gandhi's grandson's widow, 85-year-old Saraswathi Gandhi passed away here Sunday afternoon at a private hospital, family sources said.
Saraswathi Gandhi married Kantilal Gandhi, a doctor, after her uncle who was a noted Gandhian and disciple of Gandhiji arranged the marriage. Kantilal Gandhi passed away in 1983.
Saraswath's two sons - a doctor and a chartered accountant - are settled in the US.
After her husband passed away, she tried to settle down in the US with her two sons, but found it difficult to adjust to the new culture and returned to India and was living alone in Thiruvananthapuram.
Saraswathi Gandhi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2004 after she left the Congress party.
The funeral would be conducted here Monday, family sources said.
