Eminent engineers receive awards at Engineering Congress
Hyderabad, Dec 14 (IANS) The Institution of Engineers India (IEI) presented 200 awards and certificates under various disciplines to engineers for their outstanding academic and professional excellence at the 23rd Indian Engineering Congress, which concluded Sunday at Warangal.
The IEI Excellence Industry Award 2008 was given to Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), Larsen & Toubro Heavy Engineering Division, and TATA Consultancy Services.
The award was given for the first time to recognise the industry leaders for their innovation, excellence in engineering and outstanding work in the field of safety and quality.
The IEI also presented the national design award to K. Ramachandra, former director, gas turbine research establishment at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and environment engineering design award to V. Sundar, professor in department of ocean engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Chennai.
Mechanical engineering design award was presented to Akbar Hussain Baig, distinguished scientist at Defence Mettalurgical Research Lab and the Suman Sharma award to Geetha, deputy director of Geo Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Project, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.
Several institutional prizes were awarded to eminent research scholars and engineering professionals during the three-day event held at the National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Warangal. It was attended by 300 engineering professionals and 1,500 delegates.
The IEI also felicitated several engineering personalities who made significant contributions in various spheres of engineering and technology.
The National Design and Research Forum (NDRF), created by the IEI to promote advance design and research work in various branches of engineering, is giving away the awards every year.
