Pak should go that extra mile against terror: Sharif
Lahore, Dec.13 (ANI): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai and the pointing of fingers by the international community at Pakistan, the country should go that extra mile to combat terrorism.
In an interview to the New Delhi-based Tehelka magazine, Sharif said: "Nobody should be prepared to spare any organisation" that is "playing havoc both here and in India."
"We should take serious action and we should let India know that . . . action is now being taken against such elements. I think we should now set an example," the Daily Times quoted Sharif, as saying further.
He also said that it was very important for Indians and the rest of the world to see that Pakistan was sincere about tackling the menace, and therefore, they should be more sympathetic and supportive.
He said that despite his political differences with the Zardari-Gilani regime, he was absolutely sure about the Pakistan Government not being involved in the Mumbai attacks.
"The political leadership of Pakistan has no such agenda. Pakistan was fighting with "elements within our country. These elements are products of dictatorship. They emerged after Musharraf's takeover. He is responsible for grooming them," Sharif claimed. The definition of jihad is to fight against tyranny and injustice. Killing innocent people is not jihad," he added.
He said the army and the ISI were "legally and technically" under the civilian government's control, "But . . . some adventurers in the past have been derailing democracy."
He said the Indians wanted 'someone senior' from Pakistan to visit them. (ANI)
