Scores of Mumbaikars, including students, housewives as well as prominent celebrities, carrying banners and placards poured on to the roads of Mumbai in the form of a long human chain on Friday to protest Mumbai terror strikes as well as any terrorist act.
Shouting slogans for peace, the human chain passed through the terrible-hit sites of the recent terror attacks - the Taj Hotel, Oberoi-Trident Hotel and the Nariman House and condemned the dastardly terror strikes on the India’s commercial capital on the frightful night of November 26 that killed over 180 people and injured as many as 300.
Activists said that they had come together to keep Mumbai peaceful and united and to spread the message of tolerance, peace, equality and justice.
Prominent personalities like Tushar Gandhi-the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Javed Akhtar-poet and lyricist, actor Rahul Bose, freedom fighter and former city mayor Shanti Patel among others also participated actively and formed human chain.
Besides, people from all walks of life, ages, faith, and gender including several NGOs took part actively in the event.
Apart from spreading message of peace and condemnation of terrorism, the purpose of this event was to put pressure on the government to take responsibility and work out long-term strategies to prevent recurrence of such attacks.
Demands from them also include immediate implementation of police reforms, equipped security personnel with better arms and proper training to them to deal effectively with such terror attacks.
