Dubai, Dec 12 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) state carrier Emirates and India's Jet Airways have signed a cooperation agreement to boost flight connectivity as well as improve passenger services, WAM news agency reported.
Emirates will unilaterally code share on Jet Airways' daily flights from Mumbai and New Delhi to Dubai, giving travellers better connectivity and better passenger services, the report said Thursday. The new measure will come into force Dec 15.
Emirates' customers will have the option to travel on its four daily flights, as well as on Jet Airways' daily service between Mumbai and Dubai.
Likewise, on the New Delhi-Dubai sector, Emirates will offer its customers the choice of 25 flights per week on its aircraft and an additional seven flights per week on Jet Airways.
Jet Airways' flights on these sectors will be identified with its '9W' code as well as with the Emirates 'EK' code.
The two airlines have also launched a reciprocal frequent flyer arrangement that allows members of Emirates' Skywards programme to earn and redeem miles on Jet Airways flights operating within India.
Members of Jet Airways' JetPrivilege programme will be able to earn and redeem miles across Emirates' rapidly-expanding international network, with the exception of flights between India and Dubai.
Said Salem Obaidalla, Emirates' senior vice president of commercial operations in West Asia, Indian Ocean and Africa: 'The agreements between Emirates and Jet represent a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between our two airlines and between India and the UAE. The pact will enable us to offer passengers enhanced flexibility and at the same time boost trade and commerce between the two countries.'
He said the loyalty programme partnership offers members 'unmatched: benefits.
'JetPrivilege members will have an extended global footprint over which they can earn and redeem their accumulated entitlements. At the same time Skywards members can earn and burn their frequent flyer miles when travelling within India.'
Added Wolfgang Prock Schauer, Jet Airways chief executive: 'Dubai is an important market for Jet Airways and there is a significant demand from our customers to travel to and beyond Dubai. We are delighted to be able to get this exciting, new agreement up and running quickly for the benefit of our customers.
'We are expecting the services to be extremely popular with leisure travellers looking for a luxury break to one of the world's favourite shopping destinations.'
Currently, Emirates also has code-share agreements with Air India, Air Malta, Air Mauritius, Continental Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, Oman Air, Philippine Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, South African Airways and Thai Airways.
