Fatty baby may suffer from arthritis in adulthood
If your baby is overweight at the time of birth, he/she is more likely to develop arthritis in the later stages of life. The fact was revealed by a major study in UK which stated that those who weigh more than 4.5 kg at the time of their birth, are twice as likely to develop the problem as those of an average weight.
This condition is seen more in females. A new study published in the Annals of The Rheumatic Diseases said that the females with heavy birth weight are two times as likely to develop arthritis in adult stage of life.
The survey was conducted upon more than 87,000 women aged 30 to 55, who participated in the US Nurses' Health Study from 1976 to 2002. The women were in the meantime, diagnosed for arthritis. They were also questioned about their lifestyle, health and family illness.
The average birth weight is found to be 32 to 3.85 kg. Those who weighed over 4.5 kg at birth were found to be more prone to the autoimmune diseases known as rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systematic autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the issues in the joints causing them to inflame. It is often a painful and disabling situation.
Although there is not a clear description of the results, the theory points towards the fact that certain condition and diseases in the adulthood were generated during pregnancy only. In this case, the abnormal hormone reported in the arthritis patients may be an outcome of unfavourable conditions inside the womb only.
