Death sentence for three involved in 1993 serial blasts
July 18: The TADA Court today awarded death sentence to three culprits involved in 1993 Mumbai serial blast. This is the first time that the court confer death sentence in Mumbai blast that took 257 lives and injured hundreds.

Abdul Gani Ismail Turk, Pervez Shaikh and Mohammed Mushtaq Tarani are the three who got death sentence for their direct involvement in planting explosive in different parts of the city.
Judge P D Kode also declared capital punishment to Turk who had parked a motor vehicle carrying RDX at Century Bazaar in Worli. The court has also declared life imprisonment for 14 others.
The TADA court on Tuesday started rehearing the pending cases after a month gap following a petition in Supreme Court questioning the validity of TADA laws. But the apex court after rejecting the petition ordered had directed the TADA court to start sentencing the accused.
A total of hundred people were convicted in the case out of which 81 have been sentenced so far. They can appeal in the Supreme Court.
The 1993, March 12 blast is believed to be the aftermath of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The blast later formed religious riots between Hindus and Muslims in all major cities of north and western India that took lives of hundreds of people.
The judge pointing it as a heinous crime found Shaikh and Tarani guilty of planting explosive in a crowded Mumbai market and the other in a city hotel.
