McGrath predicts an Aussie whitewash against South Africa

Australasia, Thu, 11 Dec 2008 IANS

Melbourne, Dec 11 (IANS) Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has predicted a 3-0 whitewash for his side in the upcoming Test series against South Africa.

'South Africa's a good quality team, they've got some class batsmen and bowlers. I still back our boys, my prediction is 3-0,' McGrath was quoted as saying in Herald Sun Thursday.

In the past, McGrath could back up those predictions with the red cherry in his hand, and with the exception of the 2005 Ashes in England he was usually right.

South Africa is banking on its pace attack led by fiery Dale Steyn to turn the tables on Australia.

McGrath said the 25-year-old needed to adapt quickly to Australian conditions if he wanted to spearhead his side to an historic series win Down Under.

'He is a big key for them. Obviously when you are bowling at that pace, and putting that much stress on your body all the time, you have to stay fit and on the park,' he said.

'You are bowling against some of the best batsmen in the world. For a guy who hasn't played against Australia before, you have to get yourself up for that. It's just about the biggest challenge you get in Test cricket, particularly in Australia.'

'He is not a tall bowler but he obviously bowls at good pace, gets good reverse swing and will be great for the tail.'
