New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Police officials, members of the Bomb Disposal Squad and the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos were pressed into action following a bomb scare in New Delhi on Wednesday night.
With the memory of recent coordinated attacks in Mumbai still fresh in everyone's mind, and security personnel on high alert, a mysterious bag in an auto-rickshaw triggered off the scare.
According to police officials. a bag was found in an auto rickshaw in Connaught Place that witnessed a bomb blast in September 2008.
Though police officials did not find any explosives, they called in the NSG commandos to be doubly sure.
"No explosives found," said K.V. Singh, a National Security Guard (NSG) commando.enior police officials said the auto rickshaw was intercepted as a part of routine procedure, but the moment the men saw the cops they jumped out from the other side and just melted into the crowd.
They added that police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a hunt for the absconding persons.
"We found a bag in an auto rickshaw and when the constable tried to stop the auto, two people jumped off and ran away. No explosive was found but just to confirm, we called the commandos of NSG also. They also confirmed that there was no explosive," said Anand Mohan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.
Few papers and fake dollars were recovered from the intercepted bag.
Police reportedly are now suspecting it to be a case of drug smuggling and a black dollar scam. (ANI)
