ICC to draw up anti-racism code

Australasia, Tue, 09 Dec 2008 IANS

Cape Town, Dec 9 (IANS) The International Cricket Council (ICC) will prepare an anti-racism code which will run parallel with the existing Code of Conduct.

The decision to draft the code was ratified at the conclusion of the two-day Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting here Sunday. The code will be drawn up after receiving written comments and suggestions from the members, ICC said in a statement.

The members of the CEC also called for stronger action against teams, which fall short in maintaining the over rates. There CEC members also felt that a stronger stance should be taken against players who are found guilty of verbal abuse.

The CEC also recommended to the ICC Board that the role of the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) should be expanded to include liaising and managing safety, security and, terrorism intelligence matters with independent consultants.

This would be primarily for ICC events but it is envisaged that the ACSU would be prepared to offer this service to members for bilateral series if asked to do so.

All the full members and the top-six associate members also agreed to have in place World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-compliant codes by July 1. CEC agreed that draft copies of each member’s anti-doping code must be with the ICC by March 1 to allow any necessary amendments to be made by the the required deadline.
