Larsen & Toubro corners Rs. 980 crore contract from Tata steel
July 17: Larsen and Toubro the largest private sector engineering and construction company of India in consortium with Germany-based Outotec, received a big order from Tata steel worth Rs. 980 crore.
The company cornered the (EPC) engineering, procurement and construction contract for Kalinganagar plant of Tata steel to install a sinter plant of 5.75 million tonnes per annum capacity.
This new contract was bagged by the engineering major with its international consortium Pauf Wurth Italia just after another recent contract for the sinter plant and the steel melt shop for Tata steel’s Jamshedpur plant. This contract of construction includes the installation of blast furnace of 3,800cu m.
This is a known fact that Tata steel contemplates the set up of a six million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity integrated steel plant in Kalinganagar industrial complex at Jajpur district of Orissa. Set up is to take place in two phases of three MTPA each.
The present contract bagged by L&T is for the first phase of the Greenfield Kalinganagar project in which L&T would construct a blast furnace of 3.2 MTPA capacity.
L&T is supposed to complete the project over a period of three and half years. This would be the largest sinter plant ever constructed in India.
The contract is not just for civil and structural works but will also supply and erect mechanical and electrical and instrumentation systems.
The responsibility of providing basic engineering and supply equipment will be of its German partner Outotec.
Larsen and Toubro, Indian multinational, headquartered in Mumbai also has its offices in USA, Europe, Middle East and Japan.
