Varanasi, Dec 9 (ANI): Demanding better representation from the government and equal opportunities in army and paramilitary forces, hundreds of schoolgirls took out a protest march here.
The protest march was organised under the aegis of the Human Welfare Association.
With placards in their hands, schoolgirls assembled at the Sarnath Crossing and marched till the Sarnath Temple raising sogans against discrimination, terrorism and female infanticide.
Speaking to the media, Ranikant, President of the Human Welfare Association, said that girls are now seeking more challenging opportunities across the country. Therefore, they should get equal opportunities in the country's military and paramilitary forces.
"Girls are gathered here for discussing their issues. They are demanding more representation in the government. Equal opportunities must be provided to girls in commando, military and paramilitary forces, as it is in case of boys," added Ranikant.
Aware of her basic rights and annoyed with the discrimination of girls in the society, a protestor Rinki showed strong determination and said that girls would continue their struggle until they get equal status in the society.
"Even today, we are facing discrimination in the society. Boys are enjoying more privileges than us. We will continue our struggle to get our basic rights," said Rinki.
Signifying the increasing role of women in the Air Force, Padmavathy Bandopadhyay became the first lady Air Marshal in the history of the Indian Air Force in October 2004. (ANI)
