Undertrials escape from court premise in Kolkata
Kolkata, Dec 8 (IANS) Two men, facing trial for robbery, Monday escaped from a fast track court in Kolkata, the police said.
'Two undertrials, Raju Paswan and Rajesh Prajapati, escaped from the prison van standing at the fast track court here Monday. Another under-trial, Subroto Sanyal, too tried to flee, but was caught,' said Joint Commissioner of Police (administration) Pradip Chattopadhyay.
Chattopadhyay said it was also found the door of the prison van was unlocked and a police sub-inspector and constable, who were in-charge of the prisoners, were not present at the spot. An explanation has been sought from the officials, he said.
Paswan and Prajapati were held at Presidency Jail at Alipore in south Kolkata after arrest for a robbery August 12, 2005.
