July 17: Israeli scientists have developed the worlds smallest micro robots that can creep inside the tiniest tubes include human body’s blood vessels.

The Israeli scientists at the ‘Technion’, Israel’s Institute for Technology, have created the all time smallest micro robot that is 1 millimeter in width and 4 millimeter in length and uses an external source of energy. It can creep in those tiny channels of human body that is not possible to do till date in the medicine field. Till now scientist have been using the inserting device such as needles, cameras and other plastic tubules device to treat the patients.

This creation has delighted a new hope to utilize this device for diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. According to Professor Moshe Shoham, the head of the researcher’s team of the Department for Technical Engineer, “The thing that make this special is the size that we are achieved in this project and the mechanism that can actually propel inside the body, so we think that even the size that right now we have, which I have said is about 1 millimeter”. This model can creep inside vascular system, cardiac system, spinal cord and other important organs where entry was not possible till date.

Shoham claims to reduce the size of this robot in further modification of this dummy. “We can reduce it even further because the type of actuations enables us to make it even smaller than that. Further robots can be much smaller”. The actuation of this model does not need any battery because there is no battery on boards. It uses outer actuation. This makes it superior to other similar devices, as it does not need to carry additional weight in form of batteries. Though scientists have not provided any information regarding its energy sources as how it can receive energy from the external sources.

“The robot can move itself using outer actuation, this means one can miniaturize the robot in sizes which actually have no limits”, said Dr. Nir Shralb and Oded Salomon, the associate researchers with Shoham.

Besides this the robot has a unique feature of having multiple legs attached off its trunk. These legs sticks onto the walls of the capillaries tube and push the robot forward despite of against the blood flow. The trials of the experiments are yet to go. If it becomes successful, it will be a revolution in the science field.
