As Congress party is marching towards victory, considering the initial figure coming out from the ongoing counting session, a jubilant Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit thanked people for their constant support. The party is expecting a third successive win in the state.
Speaking to reporters at her official residence at 3, Motilal Nehru Marg, Dikshit told ‘I whole-heartedly thank the people of Delhi for showing their faith and affection in the party. We will work harder to stand up to your (people) expectations.'
She, however, remained calculative on her sworn in as Delhi’s next chief minister by saying that it is the party high command that will take a call on it.
Delhi went to polls for 69 seats of 70 assembly constituencies. The polls in the Rajendra Nagar constituency had been deferred following the sudden demise of BJP's candidate Puran Chand Yogi.
The mandate of voters in Delhi was also important as they went to poll in the shadow of Mumbai terror attacks.
In the outgoing assembly, the Congress had 47 members and BJP 20. Delhi had recorded nearly 58 percent polling.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Prakash Javadekar expressing his views over the polling pointed out better selection process, which could have given them some extra seats. 'We lost because of selection of candidates,' Javadekar told reporters.
