Parliament attack should have been met with war: Govindacharya

New Delhi, Dec 6 (IANS) Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader K.N. Govindacharya Saturday said India should have gone to war with Pakistan after the Dec 2001 terror attack on parliament when the party headed the ruling coalition and L.K. Advani was the home minister.

Govindacharya, who severed ties with the BJP some four years ago, told reporters here that just as in the Nov 26 terror strikes in Mumbai, there was adequate evidence of Pakistan's involvement in the parliament attack too.

Advani, who is the BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, was the home minister then. 'The party's track record was never good. India could have initiated an aggression on Pakistan but this was not done then, as now,' he said.

He said: 'Advani is a wrong leader from a right movement. He should have taken the issue of Ram temple construction in Ayodhya further, but they were in a hurry to form the government.'

Asked if he thought the temple will come into being if Advani became the Prime Minister, Govindacharya, once part of the BJP's thinktank, said: 'Nothing moved even when he was in the government earlier. It is a crime to exploit people's sentiments by false promises.'
