July 16: Its party time for Brazil as Defending Champion could able to retain the prestigious COPA Cup Championship trophy by defeating it’s bitter rival Argentina 3-0 despite of absentees of their superstar trio Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka. It was Brazil’s 8 victory of this COPA cup and continuously second while Argentine were playing to finish off the 11 years trophy drought at Maracaibo Stadium in Venezuela.
Brazil proved again its superiority to Argentina in this cup, though Argentina had already grabbed this trophy 14 times, but it was a bad day for Argentina as Brazil was not playing with their superstar trio and the performance of Brazilians was not as impressive till yesterday as Argentines. They were the hot favorite for the viewers and fans.
With playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme and its star duo Messi and Tevez, Argentina could not sustain its previous flow and were thrashed out by the powerful Brazilians, who committed 37 fouls. It was the finest match of this tournament and the best performance of Brazilians. They surpassed Argentine in each and every department of the game.
It was a very tough beginning. Both the teams were trying to dominate each other. Argentina had kept the ball most of the time but could not succeed to convert it in the goal. It is the goal, which defines the winner not the ball capturing. Brazilians could able to convert their opportunity in to goals and became the winner.
Brazilians played a superb final knock with sparkling moves, adroit touches and most important thundering finish. After finding the row, they continued it till the end of the match. Julio Baptista struck the first goal for Brazil within the just 4 th minute of the first half. Argentina’s Roberto Alaya suicide goal in 40 th minute of the game makes Brazil ahead with 2-0. Roberto Alaya could not collect the pass given by Daniel Alves and the ball reached into the goal post gave Brazil the lead in 4th minute. Brazil was leading with 2-0 till the first half.
Argentina began to blazing attack in the second half but failed to strike any goal while Brazil counter attacked in the 61st minute of the game and finally Daniel Alves hammered the final nail in the coffin of the Argentina by kicking off superb goal in the 69 th minute receiving a pass from Vagner Love. Now the Brazilians were far ahead to Argentines and they could be able to sustain this lead till the end of the game. Brazil's Robinho was adjudged Player of the tournament for his electrifying performance.
